Name: Hestia Marjorie Jones
Age: 31
Former House: Slytherin
Wand: 9" Rowan with phoenix feather core
Patronus: Hestia's Patronus is a bull.
--The bull is a much-revered Celtic animal symbol, with several different translations. Mostly, this is a Celtic animal symbol of strong will, uncompromising, and even belligerent the bull stands for unbending, stubborn personality traits – leading up to the term "bull-headed."
From: here.
Boggart: Hestia's Boggart is mist. She likes having things in order and knowing where she's going at all times.
Political view: Hestia is entirely for the Order of the Phoenix. She's currently one of its senior members and is thrilled by the influx of younger members to manipulate influence.
Sexuality: Heterosexual
PB: Emily Deschanel

Personality:

Hestia, thought once to be one of the more timid and quiet Order members, has evolved into a much more take charge personality over the last three years. The sitting back and letting things just happen hasn't appealed to her, and she's been going off on her own and doing her own thing. She's fiercely independent, always has been, and is not afraid to tell you what you're doing wrong. She's got a sharp-tongue and a quick wit, and though she does have some level of understanding, she will take you to task if she finds you in the wrong.

A very active person, Hestia can't stand to sit still for too long. She's taken up activities that typically, muggles prefer, such as biking, hiking, and skiing during the winter. It's always been about activity more than fitness, but she admittedly needs the exercise. Hestia has a strong sweet tooth and a weak backbone to tell said sweets no. It's the one place where discipline truly fails her. Fortunately, she's active enough to keep her waistline in check, but once she hit thirty, gravity began working against her and she has to battle twice as hard.

If nothing else, Hestia can be described as stubborn. She's firm in her beliefs, whether it's that the Order is right and the Ministry is corrupt and Voldemort is going down, or that Remus Lupin needs to get his act together and settle down. Which brings us right over to how nosey she is. Though she'd never use the word to describe herself, Hestia is a gossip. The thing is, though, that with her no-nonsense attitude, she doesn't take the time to talk about people behind their backs. She'll tell you, quite frankly, to your face, what she thinks of you. Whether it's war, politics, books, or your own personal life, free-spirited Hestia has an opinion on everything and isn't afraid to share it.

History:

Born near Belfast in August of 1969, Hestia, a Catholic, was slapped right in the middle of the Protestant/Catholic bloodbath. Her parents, a muggle woman and a pureblood wizard, fought against the predjudices and the violence surrounding their oldest child and only daughter. Two younger brothers, Murray and Connor, were to follow, two and four years behind Hestia respectively. Hestia instantly felt a surge of overprotectiveness towards her brothers, and she fought for them diligently. She stood up to the kids on the playground, the bullies in the streets, and even, on occasion, their parents. Strong-willed and independent, Hestia didn't let a silly thing like religious conflict get in her way. She wore her cross proudly, went to confession once a week, and was confirmed with the rest of her Sunday School class. It never occured to the little girl that there were people out there who would resent who and what she was, or that she could die for it. All she really understood was that people said bad things.

For years, the potential for Hestia and her brothers to do magic was very up in the air. Neither of her parents counted on it, and had raised their children in an (almost) entirely muggle lifestyle. They knew their Da was 'special', but never quite comprehended how. Hestia didn't even show any signs of magic until well close to her eighth birthday, and they were always so subtle that they could easily be missed. Patrick and Elaine Jones were every bit as surprised as their daughter when her Hogwarts letter came. Not only did it mean they had to sit her down for 'the magic talk', but also her brothers, as Murray and Connor would need to know why their big sister was going away. But once Hestia knew about her background, she reveled in being a witch, and bounded on to the Hogwarts Express.

The little girl was quickly sorted into Slytherin, much to the dismay of many of her more elitist housemates. It didn't matter to them that Hestia embodied the qualities Salazar Slytherin had been looking for other than pure blood. Cunning, ambitious, driven to the point of stepping on others: Hestia was a perfect fit for the house, her blood withstanding. But some of her new housemates, including one in her dorm, wanted nothing to do with her. It caused her to withdraw slightly, and though she still craved the attention and the fortune that had won her the spot in Slytherin, she didn't feel very social to the other girls--or the boys, for that matter.

In fact, she stayed away from boys almost completely, focusing instead on her school work. She threw herself into potions, trying to prove herself worthy of her Head of House's approval. With that, her hard work in Herbology, and her skill in charms, she found herself choosing medicine as her chosen field. Healer training would be long and hard work, but the friends she'd made all seemed to be going in the same direction. Granted those friends were mostly Ravenclaws (with a Gryffindor or two thrown in for good measure) but they were closer to her than ninety percent of the girls she lived with.

Healer training went well enough. It was several long, difficult years, but Hestia found she excelled at it. She worked hard and threw herself into her work. She focused on patients, bonded with coworkers, and gained a much more cheerful and friendly attitude than she'd had at school. The acceptance of her coworkers helped this along, and by the time she as made a fully qualified Healer, Hestia had an unbreakable, solid group of friends. Her time working also helped her rise above the mediocrity of her birth, and instead of sounding like a beggar off the streets, she turned almost into a proper young woman, though she never left her Northern Irish roots far behind.

It was through St. Mungo's that she wound up involved in something so huge it almost scared her. An older man by the name of Deladus Diggle came in one night with a minor injury. During his stay, he overheard her talking about the prejudices her family was facing back home in Northern Ireland. Mishearing, he thought she was concerned about the current blood prejudices with He Who Shall Not Be Named's return. The next time she found herself assisting him, he began dropping hints. And before she knew it, she was attending her first meeting of the Order of the Phoenix. At first she hadn't believed anyone saying He Who Shall Not Be Named was alive--she was a practical sort, and typically only believed what she could see for herself. Once she got involved, though, she settled in quickly enough, especially after discovering Sirius Black was not an insane mass murderer and listening to he and Remus Lupin discuss Harry Potter's battles. The retrieval of Harry from Vernon and Petunia Dursley's house was only her first step in a long line of Order-related activity.

It was odd, in a way. Finding herself fighting in an entirely different war than the one she'd witnessed her whole life. While her brothers were becoming wrapped up in the causes of Sinn Fein, she was working on an entirely different field, fighting for the rights of half-bloods and muggleborns and half-breeds. She felt no guilt when she fired off hexes most mild-mannered witches didn't even know. And her years as a Healer helped, especially on assignments that needed to be done behind the backs of the Ministry. Minor injuries were of little concern to the Order, and she used her connections at St. Mungo's the same way that Kingsley and Tonks used theirs at the Ministry.

With a war on her shoulders and her job on the line every day, Hestia's had even less time for romance as an adult than she did as a teen. She has made some amazing friends, though, and she clings to that--as much as Hestia ever clings to anything. In the end, all she truly cares about is getting from point A to point B, winning the war, and making sure everyone knows she's in charge of her own life.
